Wrapped Wedge V-Belts

Wrapped Wedge V-Belts are an enhanced version of classical V-belts, designed for higher power transmission, better load distribution, and increased durability. Unlike Raw Edge Cogged Wedge V-belts, these have a fabric-wrapped outer cover, making them more resistant to abrasion, contaminants, and environmental conditions.

Wrapped Wedge V-Belts contain a Fabric-Wrapped Cover that provides protection from oil, dust, and heat, extending belt life. The narrower, deeper profile increases the grip on pulleys, enabling higher torque transmission with less belt width. They are made with polyester or aramid cords providing High-Strength Cord Reinforcement ensuring minimal stretch and high stability.

Wrapped deep wedge V-Belts are manufactured according to specification RMA-IP 22 and also known as American Wedge Belts. Interchangeability between Narrow & Wedge belts.

Description

These belts follow ISO 4184 & DIN 7753 standards and are classified based on their top width and height.

Belt Section Top Width (mm) Height (mm) Angle (°) Common Applications
SPZ 9.7 mm 8 mm 40° Light-duty industrial, pumps, compressors
SPA 12.7 mm 10 mm 40° Agricultural machinery, HVAC fans
SPB 16.3 mm 13 mm 40° Heavy-duty industrial applications
SPC 22 mm 18 mm 40° Large motors, steel mills, mining equipment
3V 9.5 mm 8 mm 40° North American standard equivalent to SPZ
5V 16 mm 13 mm 40° Equivalent to SPB in North America
8V 25.4 mm 23 mm 40° Heavy-duty applications, crushers

Understanding the Nomenclature

  • SPZ, SPA, SPB, SPC – European standard wedge belts.
  • 3V, 5V, 8V – North American equivalents (similar but slightly different dimensions).
  • Example: SPB 2000 means:
    • SPB section belt.
    • 2000 mm outer length.

Acceptable agreement and exchangeability is found between 3V and SPZ as well as between 5V and SPB sections. It is possible to use 3V and 5V section belts in pulleys of SPZ and SPB sections respectively but corollary is not recommended as the top width of the RMA standard pulleys are smaller. Section 8V is however, larger than SPC. Profile SPC may in some cases be used in grooves intended for the 8V profile with some loss of power rating but the opposite is not recommended.
